Everyone deserves a seat at the Sunday dinner table!

Italo Archive is committed to inclusion for all

Why does accessibility matter so much?

Accessibility always matters. Regarding preservation work, it’s not fair that so many of our elderly and or disabled community can’t access or take part.

By visually describing the images, using captions, large fonts, etc,: I wanted to create an archive where all are welcome. The same with my passion for accessible and dignified genealogy.

Accessibility in preservation work isn’t just for those with disabilities. Accessibility also means making things accessible for all.

I require disability accommodations to access the archive or participate. How do I ask?

Ask! Please never feel bad about asking about things you deserve and need.

Accommodations are never a problem. I will do my absolute best to assist in every way possible.

They’re integral to the work I do. Please reach out in the format that’s easiest for you!

How is this archive inclusive?

A disabled Italian American woman founded this project. I’m a proud representative of the disabled Italian American community.

I am even prouder this is the first accessible archive for Italoamericani; if not in general.

I know how hard it is when things are inaccessible.

When archiving materials on the site or conducting archive work, I place access first. I prioritize putting accessibility for all with this project.

I will always cherish our disabled and aging populations. Accessibility doesn’t just apply to disability. It means highlighting minorities that exist in the Italo and Italoamericani and giving them a voice.

Access is making history available for all! Inclusion is not only something that people deserve, but it also makes sure is offered dignity.
